I was just thinking of a flaming rum punch. No, it’s not cold enough for that. Not nearly cold enough…Wait a minute…wait a minute…Mulled wine, heavy on the cinnamon and light on the cloves. Off with you, me lad, and be lively!

OK Christmas is over but I was too busy drinking this stuff to post anything when it was “in season” a few days ago. But hey, it’s still winter and this may not put wings on your back or hair on your chest but it’ll warm you up.
As you know from our last post about Christmas movies, this is our favorite scene from It’s A Wonderful Life. So this year my wife and I decided to make this concoction and you know what? Clarence was onto something with mulled wine. It’s also easy to make:
Ingredients
- 4 Cups Apple Cider
- 1 bottle of (cheap) red wine or port
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 orange zested and juiced
- 4 whole cloves
- 3 star anise seeds
Directions
Combine the cider, wine, honey, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice, cloves and star anise in a large saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
Pour into mugs and serve.
