A Melting Pot of Mayhem

The Roosevelt Hotel

The Roosevelt Hotel is a pretty cool spot, they’ve got multiple bars and it doesn’t get too packed. Being built in 1926, it’s also steeped in history. For Los Angeles standards 1926 is ancient. The first ever Academy Awards was held here and Marylin Monroe lived here for a while as well. Movies that were filmed here: Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), Sunset (1988), Internal Affairs (1990), and Catch Me If You Can (2002).

I’ve been told this is a picture of the first ever Academy Awards. I dunno looks right

Inside the Roosevelt are a few bars, depending on the time of day you go you have the choice from The Library Bar, Public Kitchen and Bar, The Spare Room, 25 Degrees, and the Tropicana Pool and Cafe. I usually just hit up the Public Kitchen and Bar (the one in the lobby lounge area) because Library Bar and Spare Room are usually closed when I’m in the area.

The Spare Room is awesome, they have some bowling lanes and it’s super swanky (at least by our standards, we used to be called Shit Show we’re not aristocrats here). It fits with the picture of the first ever Academy Awards above. In short, if you’re having a Gatsby Party, this is a good place to have it.

Have a couple pops inside at the Public Kitchen and Bar and then have one drink at the pricier Tropicana Pool bar.

Here’s some pictures of Marilyn’s photo shoot at the pool in the back.

And here’s a view from the pool today taken by yours truly.
