A Melting Pot of Mayhem

Creepshow is Back! On Shudder September 26th

The Original Creepshow cover. Art by Jack Kamen

In 1982 Creepshow the horror anthology film debuted. Directed by George Romero and written by Stephen King it was a massive influence on the American Pulps team. A second anthology film directed by Romero and based on King stories came out in 1987 as well. And now, after 32 years Creepshow is back.

This looks awesome, we’re really excited for the new installment. Now we just have to get Shudder accounts.

The titles and writers of each episode have been revealed, here they are. It looks like each episode will have two stories, six episodes in all. Some of them have synopses beneath.

Ep. 1AGray Matter by Stephen King

Two old-timers from a small town named Doc and Chief brave a storm to check on gluttonous alcoholic Richie after hearing disturbing stories from his terrified son, who was sent to get beer for him at a convenience store.

Gray Matter was featured in King’s book of short stories Night Shift. We wrote about how influential Night Shift was for us when we were starting out as Shit Show Pulps in a previous article. Can’t wait to see it made into an episode.

Ep. 1BHouse of the Head by Josh Malerman (Bird Box)

Synopsis: Young Elvie May witnesses a murder/haunting in the elaborate doll house in her bedroom. She worries greatly for the figurines within. And while the haunting never spills out into her house, never touches her actual family, the macabre drama her toys are involved in will scar her for life.

Ep. 2ALydia Lane’s Better Half by John Harrison (Dune)

Ep. 2BThe Man in the Suitcase by Christopher Buehlman (The Lesser Dead)

Ep. 5ABad Wolf Down by Rob Schrab (Monster House)

Ep. 5BBy the Silver Waters of Lake Champlain by Joe Hill (NOS4A2 / Locke & Key)

Synopsis: Little Gail London and her friend Joel Quarrel are out on a cold and lonely morning at the end of summer, when they make the find of the century: a dead plesiosaur, the size of a two-ton truck, washed up on the sand. With the fog swirling about them, they make their plans, fight to defend their discovery, and face for the first time the enormity of mortality itself… all unaware of what else might be out there in the silver water of Lake Champlain.

Fun fact: Joe Hill was the kid in the prologue and epilogue scenes of Creepshow 1 who got yelled at for reading the Creepshow comic.

Ep. 6AThe Companion by Joe Lansdale (Hap & Leonard)

Synopsis: 13-year-old Harold decides to explore the long-abandoned farm of the late Raymond Brenner, and finds that he’s got a new Companion: a murderous, indestructible scarecrow.

Ep. 6BThe Finger by David J. Schow (The Crow)
